Platelets Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF)
What Is It?
Plasma rich in growth factors is a biomedical technology aimed at stimulating tissue regeneration through the concentration and application of growth factors and other proteins present in blood platelets. Through the plasma rich in growth factors technology, from a minimum amount of blood from the patient we can isolate and concentrate the proteins responsible for the repair and regeneration of tissues in order to use them therapeutically. The application of plasma rich in growth factors stimulates and accelerates the recovery of injured tissues.
Our office utilizes the BTI Endoret PRGF system. A sample of your blood is obtained and your platelets are isolated. The platelets are then placed within the surgical site. In some cases, such as patients with long-term exposure to bisphosphonate medications, this may assist in wound healing, while in other cases the platelets are used to help stimulate bone regeneration during bone graft surgery.
